About Yard

History

Woodward’s Disposal Service, Inc. was founded in 1933 by Arlo Woodward. Arlo started this company with one truck and a lot of hard work. Woodward’s has always been a family business as Arlo’s wife, three sons and a daughter; all had jobs in the company. As the business started to grow, so did the number of trucks and employees. By 1966, Woodward’s Disposal Service had outgrown its original facility on East 2nd Street and relocated to its present location at 1039 S. Burlington. Presently, Woodward’s Disposal Service is in its 80th year of operation and has seen four generations of the Woodward family work there. Woodward’s Disposal Service serves 9 counties in a 100 mile radius in south central Nebraska operating a fleet of 30 vehicles, employing 32 people, and utilizing three separate facilities.

What is Recycling?

  • Recycling is the term used to describe an alternative form of getting rid of used materials. Instead of putting used materials in a landfill, it is processed and made into new items. Through Recycling it is possible to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and it also helps bring prices down on items that are made from using recycled waste.

  • Almost anything can be recycled. Recycling has expanded and grown to allow for everything from paper to plastic to batteries to be recycled and made into something useful again.

  • Recycling is also great for the planet. It takes items that would just sit in a landfill, taking years to degrade and breaks down, and turns them into new products. The life of an item that can be recycled can go on and on. From its creation this recyclable item begins a long life that may take on many forms.

  • Recycling can produce many different new items. For example, an old plastic pop bottle may not become a bottle again; it may instead become a part of a child’s toy or even a part of a new car. As you can see, Recycling goes way beyond traditional uses and explores new ways to make recycled items more useful.

  • Recycling is important and has become a key component in waste management. Most cities and towns have some type of Recycling center like Woodward’s Recycling Center that has a very large Recycling container with separate sections for different materials. People can freely put their recyclable materials out for collection or, take them to the facility that is open 24 hours a day.

  • Recycling is not a new concept, but initiating it into modern society took some time. People would discard everything without a thought of Recycling. Now most people recycle in some way and don’t even realize it. Have you ever reused a plastic container? If so, then you have recycled. It is contagious and very smart to help make our world a cleaner, greener, better place by cutting down on pollution. The best part is everyone can do it.
