Richland County Solid Waste offers the residents of Richland County many options on how to recycle household items. We have a recycling guide on our website that is full of important information for Residential and Businesses on how to recycle. It is our goal to give you the tools you need in order to dispose of items properly.We are required to maintain the Closed Landfill at 536
 Cairns Road in compliance with the Ohio EPA guidelines. Richland County Solid Waste has 13 Drop-off Locations throughout the county to help promote recycling. Our Educational Program for third graders teaches local students the benefits of recycling and why it is important for us to take care of our environment. The students also take a tour of the Rumpke
 Transfer Station or Rumpke Noble Road Landfill as part of our education program.

Richland County Solid Waste is also responsible for operating the Compost Facility located at 441 Cairns Road. The Compost Facility gives Richland County residents a place to take grass, leaves, trees and limbs, brush, shrubs, sod, mixed yard waste, wood chips and Christmas trees.Richland County Solid Waste Authority is responsible for implementing Richland County’s solid waste management plan designed to achieve the goals set by the Ohio EPA for waste reduction, recycling and reducing reliance on land filling waste generated within Richland County.On our website you will find helpful information regarding our Board Members, Staff, Educational Programs that we offer, our Compost Facility, Scrap Trailer, Collection Facility, Drop-Off Locations, Latest News, Upcoming Events, Resource information, as well as many other helpful links.

Mission Statement:

The Richland County Solid Waste Authority’s goal is to reduce the volume of waste that is placed in our local landfill and to promote the theme “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” for the many items we use in our daily lives.It has been said for many generations that the youth of today are the future of tomorrow. We at RCSWMA believe this to be an incontrovertible truth. We also believe that education of today’s youth will be the saving or our planet tomorrow.. That being said, we have developed many education programs that help teachers (public, private, and individuals) educate today’s youth to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in as many positive ways we can find.

Recycling is an important way for individuals and businesses to reduce the waste they generate and reduce the negative impact of that waste. Because recycling is big business in Ohio, every time you recycle, it also supports the many companies and employees doing this important work.Recycling conserves our natural resources, saves landfill space, conserves energy, reduces water pollution, air pollution and the green house gas emissions that cause global warming.

Together, Reducing, Reusing, Recycling and buying Recycled products make up a comprehensive waste and resource reduction strategy that benefits our natural world and our economy.Richland County Solid Waste Management offers several locations to help us all do our part in reducing waste in our communities.

Electronics & Appliances

We accept computers, cell phones, televisions, VCRs, DVD players and other electronic items. Materials will be recycled or disposed of appropriately.(Electronic items may contain hazardous materials that should not go into a landfill)

S.C.R.A.P. Trailer

The S.C.R.A.P. Trailer (School Community Recycling As Partners) picks up recyclable materials at 20 local schools each month. Materials accepted include #1 and #2 plastic, aluminum cans, tin cans, newspaper and cardboard. Schools receive the money from the sale of recyclables.The S.C.R.A.P. Trailer schedule is set by time approximate. When the trailer becomes full, it will be removed from the premise and returned to National Parkway. We cannot always guarantee that the trailer will be there until 4pm. Plan to come early.
