Belton Metal can trace its beginning back 3 generations to the early 1950's when Mr. J.C. "Junie" Clary, who was the grandfather of current Operations Manager Mark Clary, started the company in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

Belton Metal Company is based in Upstate South Carolina and is a leader among scrap metal companies in an area including Belton, Anderson, Greenville, Greenwood and surrounding areas.

Our company was started in 1962 and, being a family owned business with strong Christian values for three generations, we have developed a well-respected reputation. We are relationship driven. We offer a wide range of scrap metal, both ferrous and non-ferrous, at the best prices in the Upstate area. We are a diversified scrap metal buyer, broker and dealer. We offer complete container programs including convenient pick-ups and deliveries. We do not buy from the general public which allows us to be entirely focused on our industrial clients.

Our website has been developed to showcase our location, our equipment and our staff. As it develops, our definitive goal is for it to become a go-to resource for anyone looking to further educate themselves in the business of scrap metal recycling.

Carrying on the Tradition:

Starting in the family business at Belton Metal in 1992, at age 22, Mark began in a clerical position and yard maintenance. Working for his father
he learned strong work ethics and how to run the company from the most menial positions through office management, operations management, outside sales and public relations.

Just as his grandfather did 65 years ago, Mark strives to provide a productive and safe workplace, environmentally responsible setting and outstanding customer service.

Mark is an avid Clemson Football Fan and is an athletic coach. He enjoys hunting and weight lifting. He and his wife of 22 years enjoy spending quality time with their 13 year old daughter and 9 year old son. They are practicing Christians and are active in their church.

Mark is a supporter of the ministry, New Start Industries Addiction Recovery Program, and has provided both financial assistance as well as employment to men who have completed the program and are trying to put their lives back together.

Scrap Metal

  • Scrap metal is salvaged metal that can be recycled
  • Scrap metal is one of the largest US exports
  • By recycling metals, we reduce the amount of ore drilling throughout the world
  • Scrap metal yards deal with customers who are in the trades that come across metal on a daily basis.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)

Fast, accurate scrap metal sorting is fundamental to a scrap recycling operation. Advances in scrap sorting technology have revolutionized the way that major scrap metal recyclers and processors conduct their business. In fact, 95% of the world's largest metals recyclers use Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers. Belton Metal has incorporated this cutting edge technology into their business.

These instruments were engineered from the ground up to provide the industry with faster sorting and more accurate results; analyzing nearly every element of interest in virtually all types of metal alloys, from trace levels to commercially pure metals, and everything in between.

Everyone Benefits from Recycling Metal:

We at Belton Metal are concerned about our communities, our natural resources and our planet.
Metals such as steel, tin and aluminum can be recycled continuously without loss of quality. And these metals are recycled so quickly, that they can be back on store shelves in as little as 6 weeks after arriving at a metal recycle yard. This is not the case with plastic and paper which have a limit to how many times they can be recycled.

Recycling facilities process the metals and sell them to manufacturers who in turn create new products using recycled metals rather than mining raw materials, which saves energy and natural resources. And, since metal recycling keeps hundreds of millions of cubic yards of metal out of local landfills each year, it also helps to reduce environmental impact.

Everybody wins in the Recycling Industry:

  • A person who has metal to dispose of receives payment for his metal and saves the cost of disposal
  • The manufacturer saves money by not having to bear the cost of mining raw materials
  • The recycle yard makes a profit when selling the metal to a manufacturer and in turn, employs local citizens
  • The environment is protected from both the metal waste in the land fill as well as from the mining

Scrap Metal Theft on the Rise
Metal thefts, which have caused blackouts and traffic accidents, are on the rise in states across the country. With legislation being passed to regulate scrap yards being introduced across the country, Belton Metal has decided to deal exclusively with industrial/commercial clients and not purchase scrap from the public.
Aluminum
Although aluminum is the youngest of the nonferrous metals, it also holds the distinction of being the most widely used among them. Last year just over 3 million metric tons of aluminum was recycled in the United States. Aluminum scrap has risen sharply during the past decade due largely to its tremendous energy savings compared with primary metal.Aluminum beverage can recycling gets a lot of recognition across the country ranging from children collecting cans to help the environment; manufacturers recycling off spec and/or discarded items, and ending with consumers turning the scrap into new products.

Last year the U.S. recycled 1,762 million pounds of aluminum beverage cans. That translates to 60.9 billion cans collected during the year, which also represents an 8.9% increase in volume from the previous year.
