SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The leading Chinese steelmaker Henan Yaxin Steel Group Co., Ltd. announced launch of mew minimill for flat steel products at its Fujian Dingsheng plant. The minimill promises lowest environmental impact in operation and consists of two EAF Quantum electric arc furnaces and an Arvedi ESP line.
According to company press release, the tapping weight of each EAF unit is estimated at around 115 metric tons. The EAF units are capable of delivering 85% carbon dioxide savings in comparison with integrated production line. The ESP line, with a production capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per year, produces high-quality ultra-thin strip.

The minimill requires extremely low levels of electrical energy. It is the first first environmentally friendly minimill installation in the world to employ EAF Quantum and Arvedi ESP. This not only leads to significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, but also reduces operating costs.
The EAF Quantum, developed by Primetals Technologies, combines shaft furnace technology with innovation scrap feeding process, efficient pre-heating system and an optimized tap system. Also, the ESP plant is much more compact compared to conventional casting and rolling mills.
