Why Recycle?

Here is why you should consider recycling your old unwanted electronics. Discarded computers, TVs, cellular phones and other electronic equipment are a growing disposal problem across the world. In many instances, the only part of an electronic product we see is its outer shell. Unless that casing is broken, we rarely see the circuit boards, wiring and electrical connections that make the device function. The inner mechanical organs of electronics are so valuable yet so toxic. Several hazardous materials, such as lead, mercury, and hexavalent chromium, in circuit boards, batteries, and color cathode ray tubes (CRTs) reside in most electronics.Mercury from electronics has been cited as a leading source of mercury in municipal waste. In addition, brominated flame retardants are commonly added to plastics used in electronics. If improperly handled, these toxics can be released into the environment through incinerator ash or landfill leachate.Electronic waste dangers arise from ingredients such as lead, nickel, mercury, zinc and a host of other chemical components. Many of these elements are used in circuit boards and comprise electrical parts such as computer chips, wiring and cathode ray tubes. When these elements are safely encased in our electronics, e-waste dangers aren't much of an issue. Problems can occur when devices break. Then they can leak and contaminate their immediate environment thereby affecting the health of people nearby and the environment. These potential environmental and health hazards coupled with data security issues are good reasons why you should consider recycling your old electronic equipment.
