About Yard

Towne Technologies, (formerly Towne Laboratories), offers very high precision chemical milling (etching) and electroforming. Some of the metals we etch are Molybdenum, Tungsten, Copper, Stainless Steel, Kovar, Invar, and many others. In addition to our Metal work, we produce Iron Oxide Photoplates with Photoresist for the electronics and holography industries. We also have artwork generation capabilities for photomasks.

Towne Laboratories was founded by Jack and Mike Obzansky in 1956. Early manufacturing, as well as research and development, was done in a small shop on Main Street, in Somerville, NJ. With steady growth and an expanding product line, the company moved in 1966 into larger facilities on Rt. 206, about one mile from the original location. In 1970 a second plant was opened in Somerville, on Bell Avenue.
In 1993, the Obzansky brothers, now in their 70s, decided to retire. They sold the company to their production manager, Dr. Hercharan S. Dhillon.
Dr. Dhillon consolidated the business into the Bell Avenue plant, the larger of the two facilities, and changed company name to Towne Technologies. All of the key personnel remained with the new company, and all products and services were continued. This led to a seamless transition from Towne Laboratories to Towne Technologies.

ELECTROFORMING

Towne Technologies provides Electroforming of nickel and gold. Among other things, we make evaporation and sputtering masks for the electronics industry as well as high precision apertures for many other industries.

Our specialty is the BI-METAL mask. This is a hybrid construction using both electroforming and etching techniques. Small precision features are electroformed into a thin layer of Nickel and are supported by a Copper or Kovar base material. It it most commonly used for evaportation and sputtering masks or with high precision aperture or slit masks.
