About Company

Est. 1940. Dealers in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cable strippers, skip service for metals, ATF for ELV's. All the usual dealer facilities.Foulds Metals Limited began trading in Fleetwood shortly after the end of the First World War. A proud Yorkshireman, John Foulds first settled in Fleetwood working in the butchering trade. He then went into the scrap business with premises in Back Mount Street, Fleetwood. After relocating to Victoria Street in 1925, he was joined by his son Albert in 1930, trading in rags and woollens as well as metals. In 1951, Albert Foulds Snr, acquired the former ICI Social club and re-branded it as the Dome of Discovery. He used to trade in almost anything second hand, from a 6-inch nail to a three-piece suite. He subsequently established premises in Cop Lane.

Albert’s three sons, John, Norman and Albert Jnr, were involved in the firm for a number of years but it was Norman who continued the scrap metal side of the business, operating from premises in Styan Street before eventually returning to Cop Lane. Norman traded here for many years, also establishing Skip-Hire. He acquired Robertson’s former foundry on Siding Road in 1980 and re-located the business to its current site. In 1989, Skip-Hire was off-loaded and the scrap business was taken over by Ian Barnes, who remains managing director to this day.Throughout the company’s growth and new ownership, the Foulds name has been retained as a mark of respect to the founding family. The company has retained a family business mentality since day one; this continues with Ian’s ten trusted employees, six of which are members of his own family.Due to the company’s commitment to recycling, several neighbouring premises have been acquired and the site is now larger than ever and ready to purchase your scrap.

There have been some instances where unsafe vehicles have been sold on to new owners. These are dangerous and usually illegal cars and vans that should not be on the road. If you dispose of your vehicle the wrong way and it’s your name on the registration documents, this can lead to all sorts of legal problems and fines for you.To secure yourself against this, you need to be issued with a Certificate of Destruction, which alleviates you from the responsibility of the vehicle concerned. At Foulds Metals we are equipped with a properly licensed Authorised Treatment Facility to protect you against any fines and legal issues.Foulds Metals is fully recognised by both the Environment Agency and the DVLA. A considerable amount of investment in amenities and staff training has been made by the proprietor in order to satisfy all relevant authorities and allow our business to operate. Environmental Protection legislation brought in by the government around 8 years ago has changed all the rules surrounding End of Life Vehicle Disposal. Today, cash payments for disposal vehicles are illegal to discourage criminal activity such as metal theft. Payment will therefore be made by cheque or bank transfer to your account.

When you dispose of a vehicle through us, you will be paid for its scrap value by the aforementioned cheque or bank transfer. Your vehicle will then be collected and brought to our ATF for dismantling and safe disposal. A unique permit code is securely issued by the DVLA to Foulds Metals, which allows you to be issued with a Certificate Of Destruction (COD). The COD will be posted onto you or the last registered owner after de-pollution has been completed and will absolve you of any responsibility for the vehicle concerned. This also ensures that there is no chance of your old car or van returning to the road.Vehicles are produced from a range of materials that can harm the environment and are filled with hazardous fluids such as fuel, oil, brake fluid and radiator coolant; not to mention battery acid, potentially dangerous glass and wiring looms. Disregarded fluids are captured in sealed tanks to make sure that no toxic substances enter the mains drainage system. All this material is carefully removed by fully trained and licensed staff employed here at Foulds Metals, who have to pass an exhaustive selection process and meet the strict operational criteria.

We are within 1/4 mile of the Freeport Shopping Centre in Fleetwood. Fleetwood is signposted from M55, Junction 3.When approaching Fleetwood from Cleveleys on Amounderness Way (A583), turn left at the Freeport roundabout, towards Fleetwood town centre. After 100 yards, take the next left turn into Sidings Road (if you reach a mini roundabout, you have gone too far). We are on the left of Sidings Road; just go past the first entrance and use the second entrance after the main building (look for the cranes).
