About Yard

What does Alaska Scrap Metal and Recycling actually do? Metal Recycling in Alaska is our game. We recycle ALL types of metals including copper, bronze, aluminum, stainless steel, brass and iron. We pay for all scrap metals based on a percentage of market price. We will accept any metal scrap including appliances, junk cars, copper, aluminum, and iron, etc. If it’s scrap metal we will take it and we will recycle it.

The benefits of metal recycling are astounding. Take for instance the aluminum pop can. By recycling one pop can, the energy saved would power your television set for 3 hours. That one pop can alone generates a 95% energy savings over digging ore out of the ground and processing it. That’s amazing! As the price of fuel goes up the value in recycled metals follow. By recycling metal we are playing a huge part in energy conservation.

Our Specialty is Recycling the Metal in Junk Cars and other Heavy Iron.

The benefits are many….saving energy has a global impact through energy conservation. Cleaning up neighborhoods has a local impact by raising property values for homeowners. Also we are alleviating environmental concerns that are present anytime you have junk vehicles rotting on the ground. We have salvaged 1000’s of junk cars and 1000’s of tons of iron from the Kenai Peninsula and the state of Alaska since our inception in January of 2008.  You may bring your junk car to either our Anchorage facility or our Soldotna facility.

Bring all of your scrap iron and tin to us.  Non-ferrous scrap metal?  We pay for that and we recycle it, too!  Have too much?  It’s possible that we can come and pick it up.

Soldotna Scrap Recycling

Our Soldotna location is the parent company to our Anchorage Facility and the sister company to S&R enterprises.  The owners of Peninsula Scrap has more than 30 years in the scrap metal and demolition business.  We know our metals and we know how to manage clean up and salvage jobs.  Peninsula Scrap has been officially open as a full service scrap metal recycling facility since February 23, 2008.  Prior to that our scrap metal enterprises were conducted under S &R Enterprises which has been in business since 1995.  The scrap metal industry has exploded in the last 20 years which mandated that we spun off from S&R and become our own entity.  We are still a sister company of S&R Enterprises which is a general contractor and trucking company.  S&R and Peninsula Scrap and Salvage complement each other very well working hand in hand with many off-site clean up and demolition jobs.  We are happy to bring our many years of experience to our recently opened Anchorage Facility, Alaska Scrap and Recycling.  We do jobs all over the state of Alaska and are capable of large scale cleanups and demolition wherever you may be.  Please call with your specific needs or for more information.

Recycled Metals and Their Uses

  •  Iron – The statement ‘iron is everywhere’ is true. It is not an understatement. It is a fact that you can find iron or   a form of it, wherever you may be. Some may not be visible to the naked eye   but still exists.  From the button on your jeans to the frame on your   car. Iron is used in all or part of everything that you touch.
  • Aluminum – is a comparatively new metal   that has been produced in commercial quantities for less than 100 year, but   is second only to iron in world consumption. It weighs about one-third as   much as steel or copper, and because of its high strength-to-weight ratio, it   is ideally suited for aircraft, missiles, automobiles and trucks and marine   vessels. Primary sources for scrap are beverage cans, aircraft, vehicles,   appliances, furniture and electric appliances.
  • Copper – this red metal is widely used for   its electrical and thermal conductivity, its chemical stability, and its   work-ability. Brasses are copper alloys containing zinc as the principal   alloying element. Bronzes are copper alloys in which the principal alloy in   elements are tin and zinc. Other classes are copper nickels,   copper-nickel-zinc alloys, and leaded coppers. Automobile radiators,   telephone and utility wire and cable, tubing, electrical motors, generators,   ammunition shell cases, plumbing fixtures, and railroad equipment are major   sources of obsolete red metals.
  •  Zinc – One of the most important uses is   as a protective coating (galvanizing) on steel. It is widely used to make die   castings for automobile and construction applications, as an alloying element   with copper to make brass, and as a chemical compound in rubber and paints.
  •  Lead – The major use is for batteries for   energy storage. It is also used in ammunition and electrical cable sheathing.   Scrapped batteries account for the majority of recovered lead. As a percent   of output, lead is the most recycled metal.
  • Brass – is a mixture of copper and zinc   with traces of other metals.  Brass is used in construction in things   like screws, rivets and valves
