Community

No one knows the needs of a community better than those who live and work in it. At IESI, our philosophy of local managerial empowerment allows our site managers to give back to their communities in ways that best meet the needs of their communities. This location-specific approach to good corporate citizenship results in a kaleidoscope of outreach programs, contributions and support that serve to benefit thousands of people across our service region.

Encouraging Economic Growth

Our waste facilities encourage economic vitality and growth in our community through more than contributions. Throughout the IESI service region, our company purchases goods and services locally, we employ local people, and we contribute to the local tax base. We also belong to our local chambers of commerce, and sponsor many events that promote the economy. Our facility provides host community benefits that lower residential taxes and provide for municipal capital improvements.

Giving Back

Giving back to our local community is part of doing business for IESI. One of the most vital groups served by our donations is our emergency service organizations. Our facilities help provide equipment, gear, and vehicles for our local fire, police and sheriff’s departments.Another area of vital importance for our giving is the children of our communities. IESI believes in our children, and we support them with scholarships and we sponsor many educational and sports programs. We also donate annually to the Make a Wish Foundation and Women in Need.Last, but certainly not least, in the area of giving are the local services and community organizations that benefit from our financial backing. We believe that investing in service organizations, such as the Rotary Club and the local library system will bring great returns to our communities. We also believe that supporting the myriad of local community organizations that come to us for help will make our neighborhoods better places in which to live and work.

Recycling

Progressive Waste offers a wide range of recycling services which include curbside residential, commercial front-load, compactor, and roll-off services. A variety of pickup schedules is offered to fit the needs of the customer. Progressive Waste now offers single-stream recycling which allows all recycling materials to be collected in one container. Since it is easier to recycle this way, more materials are being diverted away from the landfills and are being reused to manufacture products used every day. As more uses are found for recycled materials, more resources are being preserved for future generations.

Residential Waste Pickup

Progressive Waste offers weekly residential trash pickup in Frankin, Cumberland, and Adams Counties. Whether it is individual subscription service or municipal contracted service, we can meet your residential trash needs. Call our knowledgeable Customer Service representatives to see what plan works best for you.

Yard Waste
Per PADEP Act 101, since September 26, 1990, no waste disposal facility is permitted to accept loads that are comprised primarily of yard waste. To insure that we stay within these parameters, we cannot pick up more than 1 bag of yard waste for every 4 bags of regular household trash. In other words, the yard waste can only comprise 25% or less of the entire pickup. If you have a lot of yard waste to dispose of, you can contact your local township. Many municipalities have composting facilities that will take yard waste. Some townships also offer curbside pickup of leaves, etc.

Commercial Trash Hauling

Progressive Waste offers Front-load trash service to private and commercial customers on schedules that meet your needs. Front load containers are available in several sizes from 2 cubic yards to 10 cubic yards. We offer pickup schedules from once per month to six days per week to handle the volume of trash that is generated at your home or business. Call one of our Sales Representatives to discuss your needs.

Our environmentally friendly system

Our environmental standards begin with the design and construction of the site. It is sealed like a vault with various liners, clay and/or synthetic, to protect the surrounding land, water and air. Collection systems are installed at the base of the landfill to collect and remove any water that reaches the liner system. As the landfill develops, gas recovery systems are installed to control the methane that is naturally produced as organic waste decomposes.

We have invested in waste-to-energy technologies which converts methane gas produced in a landfill to electricity. Conversion of methane reduces greenhouse emissions while making a positive contribution to energy production. Our Seneca Meadows Landfill has created a 200-acre “Renewable Resource Park” that builds on the resources created by the landfill’s 17 megawatt landfill gas-to-energy facility. Our plan is to build more gas-to-energy facilities as our landfills continue to develop. Our landfill sites provide an environmentally safe and economical way to manage the non-hazardous, solid waste generated within the community. We strive to find new and innovative methods to use at our facilities to further benefit the community.
