For over 90 years, Emmons Service, Inc. has been the go-to name for commercial and residential trash hauling and recycling in Jackson County. As a family owned and operated company, we play an integral part in keeping our home—the Jackson community—free of rubbish. We are the oldest garbage removal service in Jackson County, complimenting this position with a professional staff and friendly customer service that is second–to–none.

History

In 1918, Emmons Service, Inc. was founded in Jackson by William Patton Emmons to remove rubbish from residential areas by horse-drawn wagon. As the business grew over the next 25 years, a shift from horse-drawn wagons to motorized trucks began to gain momentum, allowing for cleaner, more efficient removal of trash and garbage. After William had passed in this same time, his son, Robert Hague Emmons, purchased the company from his estate.

Emmons Service remained under the ownership of Robert Emmons until 1981, when he then sold the business to his son, David Del Emmons. It was under David's leadership that Emmons again improved the way they collected garbage along residential routes by introducing the 'Curby' cart service in 1985. He also started a compost drop-off-site for yard waste in 1988, as he recognized that recycling was moving to become a major aspect of hauling in the future.

The compost drop-off site became a two-tiered residential recycling program by the end of 1990, which included curb-side pickup throughout the county and large receptacles for dropping off corrugated cardboard, newsprint, glass, metal and plastics. Shortly after the recycling program's inception, an advanced recycling truck was purchased to keep up with the increasing number of households participating in the program.

CURBSIDE PICKUPRECYCLING

Curbside pickup recycling is now as easy as taking out the garbage!We offer both pickup and drop-off recycling services for the convenience of our customers. Our drop-off site is also open to the general public, because we want to help people with their recycling efforts.

What is curbside pickup?
With curbside pickup, simply place your recycling into a clear plastic bag and place it into your normal trash pickup. The clear plastic bag from your trash will be removed and diverted to the recycling facility for sorting and processing.

What are the benefits?
Instead of every-other-week recycling pickup, you'll now gain weekly pickup of this material. This new process will also help to reduce emissions by picking up your trash and recycling at the same time.

What do I need to do?
Curbside pickup is a simple process. The required clear plastic bags are available at most stores. With single stream recycling, you don't need to sort each recycling type into a separate bag either! Just place all recycling into a single bag, filled approximately 3/4 full or less and tie shut. For our customers who currently hold one of our green recycling bins (which will be retired with the start of the new weekly curbside pickup program), please contact us to arrange for Emmons to retrieve the bin, or simply return it to us at our Water Street location.

COMMERCIALSERVICES

Though we are renowned throughout Jackson County for our residential refuse collection and recycling services, Emmons also provides excellent contract-free services for commercial- and construction-sized jobs. Our rubbish collection containers come in sizes from one cubic yard up to eight cubic yards, and are picked up weekly by one of the many trucks in our fleet.When your collection service is as efficient and dependable as ours, there's never a need for a term contract.
