COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Providing career opportunities that are challenging and rewarding is the most satisfying contribution an employer can make to a community. Beyond that, staying connected and supporting local charities has been a hallmark of our people and company for generations.

ACE HISTORY
Established in 1955, ACE is committed to defining a company culture that values service, honesty and trust.

During Eisenhower's first term as President, the country was in pretty good shape, and a local boy, Don Hedtke, had just returned from the Korean War. Hauling ashes (as it was called back then) became a career of choice. Don drove an old pick-up truck through the neighborhoods, knocking on doors and looking for full ash cans. Two bits a barrel, cash, was the typical charge. Adams Disposal was his first employer, but soon he struck out on his own.

In 1955, ACE was born when Don, his brother, and a friend combined forces. They spent the next 37 years building a history of service. In 1992, Andy and Tim Schweizer saw the value of ACE and purchased the company from Dean Warden and Bill Hedtke. Located in Andover, the company had 25 garbage trucks and 25,000 loyal customers in a growing community. Confident in themselves and their people, the brothers invested time and money in a service organization that is built to last. Today, ACE is a Waste Connections Company still based in Ramsey. With over 60 trucks and 85,000 customers, ACE continues to build upon their service history established in 1955.

Many books have been written on how to be successful in business. Strategic planning, government compliance, beating the competition, and investing in the latest technology are all said to be keys to success. Each has its place, but in business and in life, values and vision guarantee lasting success.

When it was time to join forces with other haulers, ACE did it. When driver safety needed improvement, ACE gave customers carts to reduce manual lifting. When the community asked for curbside recycling, ACE provided it. When technology improved, ACE was one of the first companies to offer two-sort recycling. In 2004, to increase convenience for our yard waste customers, ACE began offering yard waste collection carts.

To increase recycling, all customers were converted to single-sort recycling using a wheeled container. It was the largest single monetary investment in ACE's history and has proven to be a success for our customers and the environment.

The summer of 2012 marked the introduction of Natural Gas Vehicles in the ACE fleet. Converting to natural gas as a fuel source will reduce our reliance on the political whims of the foreign oil market and will improve our stability and future as a company. It also supports American jobs and infrastructure.

Here at ACE we are committed to defining a company culture that values service, honesty and trust. We recognize our role in the community, both every day on the street (safety, service, professionalism) and through the years as part of the local economy - creating jobs, strengthening the tax base and helping local charities.

Battery Disposal Options

Some batteries are hazardous because they contain mercury, lead, cadmium, or silver. These metals are toxic and hazardous to the environment. In Minnesota, it is illegal to throw hazardous batteries in the garbage or burn them.

It can be difficult to determine the type of battery you have, whether it is rechargeable, and whether it is recyclable. Sometimes, the label information, the shape of the battery, or the information on the packaging will tell you. If not, contact a retailer who specializes in batteries for assistance in identifying the type.

Common Battery Types/Disposal Method

  • Alkaline: OK to place in the garbage.
  • Carbon Zinc: OK to place in the garbage.
  • Lithium (less than 9 volts): OK to place in the garbage.
  • Rechargeable batteries: Take rechargeable batteries to a Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation collection site. Common rechargeable batteries include
  • Nickel-Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Lithium Ion and portable (less than 2 lb.) Sealed Lead batteries.

Automotive Batteries:

Automotive batteries are lead-acid batteries and are used in vehicles such as cars, boats, snowmobiles, golf carts, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, and wheelchairs.Automotive batteries contain about 18 pounds of lead and about 1 gallon of highly corrosive sulfuric acid. Both are toxic. It’s illegal to put vehicle batteries in the garbage. They must be recycled. By law (Minnesota Statutes § 325E.1151), an auto battery retailer must accept up to five lead acid batteries per consumer and may not charge to receive the batteries. You must turn in your old lead-acid battery when you buy a new one or you will be charged a surcharge of at least $10.00. The retailer must refund the surcharge if you bring in the old battery, with your receipt for the purchase of the new battery from that retailer, within 30 days of purchase.

Appliance Pick Up

For good reason, major appliances are no longer considered household junk. Appliance recycling has become safe and easy, certified technicians reclaim freon while the many different types of metals are recycled for reuse.Major appliances means clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, hot water heaters, heat pumps, furnaces, garbage disposals, trash compactors, conventional and microwave ovens, ranges and stoves, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, and freezers.

Please contact us to arrange curbside pickup of appliances, electronics, furniture or other special items. Rest assured we fully disclose our fees, and we manage all services in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. We take (almost) everything. It's the ACE difference.
