Litter Pick Ups

We encourage litter pick ups all year long. It is never the wrong time to clean up Kosciusko County. To help keep people safe we lend out bright orange safety vests and give bright yellow plastic bags for litter collection.

Litter Busters clean up for this year runs April 9 through May 14, 2016. Come by the Depot to pick up your litter kits anytime during office hours. Vests, bags, snacks and seed bombs will be available for your team. Litter bag drop-off sites will be located throughout the county.

Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHW)

  • For household chemicals, look for products with the words: Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Flammable, Hazardous and Corrosive. Products with these labels should NOT be disposed of in the landfill, they should be brought to the KC Recycling Depot for safe disposal. In your home these labels may be on your cleaning products and polishes. In your garage these may be pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, pool chemicals and automotive products.

  • For electronics, we collect: computers, printers, TV's, VCR's, DVD players, microwaves, cell phones etc. Basically anything with a circuit board. Please note, we charge more for a TV tube than for a TV left in it's casing. The bare tube contains a charge and we must package this item separately for shipping. Please leave your TV's in their original state. As of January 1 2011, it is illegal to put e-waste into your garbage. E-waste must be disposed of properly. See pricing above. Please call ahead if you have an heavy TV (app. 75 pound or heavier) to make sure we are properly staffed.

  • For mercury products, we collect: fluorescent bulbs, thermometers (they have a silver line, not a red or blue line), thermostats, microwaves and UV bulbs.

  • For paint products, we collect all oil base paints free of charge. Latex paint is water based and nonhazardous. Good latex paint (meaning it can be stirred and used again) is collected free of charge and put into our reuse room. Bad latex paint is collect with a user fee, see items collected and prices below. Latex paint that is dried may be thrown away in the trash as long as the lid is off. To help your latex paint dry, mix equal parts kitty litter or sawdust into your paint and it will dry quickly. It can now go safely in your trash!

Sharps Collection

It is important to properly dispose of Sharps. Sharps are needles, needles with syringes, needles with tubes, blades, razors and Exactos. It doesn't matter if they are medically contaminated or not; they should be disposed of in a proper sharps container and not sent to a landfill.Pick up your free Sharps container at the KC Recycling Depot. Liquid bleach bottles (or other hard rigid plastic bottle) may also be used to collect sharps. Make sure the lid is in place and taped down. Properly mark your Sharps container if unidentified. Bring your full container to the Depot during our open hours for disposal.
