Recycle Livingston

Here at Recycle Livingston, our volunteers and staff are working hard to make recycling convenient for you. We appreciate your effort in reducing the waste stream of Livingston County by recycling with us. Through your efforts, over 500 tons of material have been diverted from landfills every year and processed through our facility.

Meet Recycle Livingston, the only non-profit recycling center serving the residents of Livingston County Since 1989. And we are still committed to reducing the flow of solid waste to local landfills today, even expanding our program to include many hard to recycle items such as household batteries, Styrofoam, computers, latex paint, among other items. Since the inception we have relied on volunteer support so we can continue to provide our services at a minimal cost and be available to everyone. Many of the items we accept for recycling are difficult and expensive to recycle.

At times, when the markets for materials change we also have to change. So please go to Recycle Info tab for more information on what we can recycle and what we cannot. It is important to keep our materials sorted and acceptable to our vendors. And while we wish we could recycle everything, we are committed to recycling 100% the items you bring in. And should items that are not recyclable get mixed in, not only will our vendors not accept the materials, we run the risk of having our hard work end up in the landfill. We pledge to continue to seek out new markets and we will continue to strive to recycle as much as we can with your assistance.

Unscheduled Site Closures
If the public schools are closed due to weather, we close.. Recycle Livingston may also close due to weather conditions, including but not limited to: severe heat (heat index in the 90's); thunderstorms/tornado warnings; severe cold (zero wind chill or single digit temps). When these or other questionable weather conditions exist, call the office before coming to the site.

Office Hours
Recycle Livingston employees mostly work part time. If you need to speak with someone during non-site hours, please call ahead to make sure that someone will be there. The telephone number is 1-517-548-4439. Typical office hours are Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Someone will always be available to take phone calls on site days that we are open. And our answering machine is checked frequently so feel free to call and leave a message if you have a question or need more information. When we are there, we try to leave the small gate open or half gate open for office traffic.

Recycle Information

Thank you for taking the time to learn about exactly what materials we can accept for recycling and how to prepare the materials for our volunteers to process. Keep in mind that we all are guilty of wishful recycling….we have an item and we are sure it can be recycled because it looks exactly like one of the items we accept. However, it does not meet the criteria. Our vendors need some way to establish easy to follow guidelines and we want to make sure we are recycling 100% of the materials that you bring in. And if we engage in wishful recycling, we run the risk of ruining the material and not having the material 100% recycled.

Remember, we are a nonprofit volunteer run recycling drop off site and if we have to pay to recycle, we may have to pass along the cost. All extra charges are clearly stated below.

From time to time, at a request from our vendor, we may have to change the materials we accept. Or sometimes we find out we can begin to accept a new item. The markets for recyclable material change as does the pricing. So please be patient with us should we request changes in how and what you can recycle.
