Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. is a rapidly expanding nonprofit organization based out of Belleville, Illinois. “Phoenix” has a joint mission of “conserving vital natural resources while serving as a leading regional employer of persons with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries.”

Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. currently provides recycling and document destruction services for well over 200 business/organizations throughout the “metro area.” We anticipate having working relationships with over 400 commercial entities by the conclusion of 2008.

The residential community is served by our collection center located at 650 South Ruby Lane in Fairview Heights. In addition we serve as the “drop off” site for the City of Belleville’s curbside recycling program. All told “Phoenix” has kept approximately 3,000,000 pounds or 1,500 tons of potential waste out of local landfill over the course of 2007.

Our operations continue to expand as a result of superior customer service and extremely competitive prices. Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. has recently added complementary recycling services for all of our regular document destruction customers.

Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. was formed primarily as a vehicle to create paid work opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities. We now employ over 40 persons with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries. For many of the individuals we employ their job means much more than a paycheck. Innumerable gains have been made in the areas of friendships, social skills and both self-esteem and self-discipline.

Although providing employment opportunities for persons with disabilities is still a significant concern our organizational goals have expanded considerably. Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. has now developed the framework to become a regional leader in both the recycling and document destruction industries.

Recycling

As a result of ever increasing dire environmental predictions, increased legislation and a call for both “responsible personal and corporate stewardship” residential and commercial recycling is on the rise.  Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. has uniquely positioned itself as the only business in the metro area that provides a “full line” or both recycling and document destruction services for both residential and commercial customers.  As a result, “Phoenix: is in excellent position to divert thousands of tons of materials that would otherwise be going to surrounding landfills.'

Collection Center:Our collection center, located at 650 South Ruby Ln in Fairview Heights, IL 62208, has external collection containers available for use on a 24 hour/365 day per year basis. Phone 618-293-6282Phoenix Recycling and Shredding staff is available between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on a Monday-Friday basis to help you unload your recyclables if needed or desired. Commercial Recycling:Phoenix Recycling and Shredding is available to assist your business/organization in the design and implementation of a comprehensive recycling program. “Phoenix” employees are available on a schedule of your need and choice to pick up all items at your place of business that you desire to have recycled.

Why Shred?

Theft, vandalism and industrial espionage are becoming ever increasing security problems. There are too many horror stories resulting from confidential information getting into the wrong hands. Today’s information explosion, when not properly managed, can be devastating to a business. Outdated or inactive company files can become damaging. Shredding this information protects a company against potential lawsuits.

The Supreme Court has ruled that information in the trash is “...fair game to anyone.' An ever expanding array of privacy laws makes companies more vulnerable than ever to lawsuits when personal records are disclosed to outsiders-even by accident.It is estimated that corporate espionage costs U.S. businesses over $7 billion annually. It is believed that one in four American adults have been defrauded in various identity theft schemes.

Destruction Method - Phoenix Recycling and Shredding, Inc. has both “mobile” and “plant based” shredding services available. The mobile shredding is done in one of our trucks at your place of business. The plant based shredding is done at our secure document destruction center. A Certificate of Destruction is issued regardless of the method used.

Frequency of Pickups - For businesses seeking regular service, documents maybe picked up on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. Larger or “one time purges” can be scheduled on an as needed basis. We can typically fill any request within 48-72 hours of notification.

The “Phoenix” Advantage - After your documents are shredded they are immediately compacted into large bales (over 1,000 pounds) of shredded paper and then ultimately shipped to a paper mill. This process provides an extra level of security as well as being environmentally responsible. As a consumer, please proceed with caution if your documents are handled in other manners that are not consistent with complete destruction.
