Marlec Engineering Company Ltd

Rutland House Trevithick Road , Corby, United Kingdom | Energy

Marlec was formed in 1978 in Rutland – the smallest county in the UK – by our founder John Fawkes who subsequently received a Wind Energy Pioneer award from the British Wind Energy Association. As an early-retired successful engineer and businessman he was asked to investigate methods of keeping batteries topped up on farms to operate electric fence units located away from the grid.

The solution was the Rutland Windcharger a simple, reliable, quiet and efficient wind driven battery charging generator.

Uses for the Rutland quickly diversified and they were soon seen on ocean going yachts, remote telecommunication sites, static caravans, isolated homes, navigational buoys, clinics in Africa, etc.

Marlec’s range of Rutland Windchargers has extended over the years and with a strong emphasis on product development and continuous improvment in design and performance. For example our original 50 Watts @ 10m/s (19knots) 910 series machine has undergone 2 major power improvements to achieve almost double the power today from the same diameter turbine!

In-house manufacturing of generators and other components using our own engineering workshops ensures that quality is carefully controlled and all parts and tooling are made to the highest possible standard.

Marlec is proud to be an ISO9001 registered company, one of very few in the renewable energy field internationally.

Marlec’s portfolio of “clean energy” products centres around the Rutland Windchargers and BP Solar photovoltaic panels complemented by two other specialist solar panel types which are semi-flexible. SunWare is a premium marine solar panel range which Marlec represent in the UK and Spectra Solar is our own brand of trickle charger solar panels and from late 2008 includes a flexible solar panel. As a system solution provider we include a range of accessories including controllers, batteries, inverters, low voltage power saving devices, cable, mounting kits and low energy DC lamps.

Green PowerEd and Green Columns are complete wind & solar kits designed by Marlec to provide a ready solution for education and street lighting respectively but we also work in partnership with our customers to design and assemble bespoke renewable energy kits. We have designed and supplied solar powered LED lighting kits for bus shelters, wind & solar powered bus shelters & road signs, solar powered navigation buoy lighting systems and many other plug & play kits to suit specialist customer requirements.

Worldwide there are tens of thousands of satisfied Marlec product users and in some of the earth’s most extreme climates ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara Desert. Our quality control and attention to detail along with our innovative flair are without question. Wherever there is a need for low power, at any location in the world, Marlec has the solution.

Wind Power

Rutland Windchargers

Over the last 30 years thousands of customers have installed thousands of our wind turbines to provide a reliable way of charging batteries at remote and difficult to access sites. Many of these have been critical operations for telecommunications, scientific data collection and more recently for broadband connections.

Install a Rutland Windcharger and experience the convenience of fully charged batteries. Power that is readily available for lights, navigation equipment, laptops and other electrical appliances. Free and renewable energy from the gentlest breeze can be combined with solar panels for a balanced year round power supply.
Land based Windchargers

When you need power at a remote site the Furlmatic model Windchargers provide a reliable and cost effective solution. Power generated can be used for off grid homes, remote telecommunications, monitoring, electric fences etc avoiding the costly and inconvenient installation of grid power. The Furlmatic Windchargers protect themselves by reducing the rotational speed of the turbine in extremely high winds in a design that continues to stand the test of time. For temporary installations land installations the smaller wind turbines can be used to keep batteries topped up.

Solar Power is free

Solar Power can be used to provide free energy from the sun for many different applications. Marlec Engineering are experts in off-grid and grid connected solar installations with over 30 years experience in the field. As a distributor of a range of solar panel types for many different purposes, and with an experienced in house design team we are able to realise your goals whatever your requirement.

Solar Panels can be used:

  • At your home or business and connected to the grid
  • To reduce your energy bill and earn money for the power you generate
  • To generate power on boats, caravans and other mobile demands
  • To charge batteries for leisure and professional uses
  • To power off-grid remote applications with integrated Wind and Solar Systems
