World Water Day

The world water crisis is one of the largest public health issues of our time. The United Nations passed a resolution in 1992 designating World Water Day as an international day of observance and action on March 22 of each year and celebrated within one week’s time.

The UN has prioritized water access because it contributes to such widespread suffering, including increased poverty, high child mortality rates, depressed education levels and political instability.

An estimated 4,900 children die per day due to lack of clean, safe drinking water; of the millions of deaths yearly, 90% were children under the age of 5. Nearly 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and 2.6 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation.

HydroSolutions particpates in the the World Water Day – Walk for Water. The first event of its kind in Montana, was held in 2008 in Billings and joined 65 other cities in the U.S. to raise awareness of the global water and sanitation crisis.

Volunteers of all ages participated in the 5K and 1 mile walk. Water and Sanitation demonstrations included: LifeStraws, Bio-Sand Water Filtration, Drip Irrigation, Water Testing, Hygiene, Latrines, and Carrying Water. Five Water Mission Projects were represented for awareness.

Beyond participating in World Water Day, we work hands on in Uganda to help on drip irrigation systems for farming, evaluated water quality in existing wells and constructed bio-sand water filters to provide clean drinking water.

 Over the years, our services have grown to include civil and environmental engineering, geographic information systems (GIS) and environmental database management – service areas which augment our solid base in hydrology, geology and environmental management services.
