Swancote Energy

Swancote, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, United Kingdom | Compost & Food Waste

Swancote Energy operates a state of the art Anaerobic Digestion facility with an annual processing capacity of 75,000 metric tonnes. Established in 2011 the business produces renewable energy from a combination of food wastes and purpose grown energy crops.

Anaerobic Digestion is a natural process whereby bacteria break down organic material in the absence of air yielding a biogas (a mixture of carbon dioxide and methane) and digestate (a nitrogen rich fertiliser)

A combined heat and power plant (generator) turns the biogas into electricity and heat. The electricity produced is fed directly to a local aluminium smelting company who is the areas largest employer. The heat is recovered and re-used as part of the process.

Swancote Energy is set up to process all types of food waste, whether it is loose or palletised, and recycle all manner of packaging such as plastic, tin, cardboard and glass. The site operates a strict policy of zero waste to landfill. Our Clients include many of the UK’s major food manufacturers, retailers and distributors.
